Ted Kennedy, le dernier lion du Sénat s'est éteint

Le sénateur démocrate Edward Kennedy est décédé d'un cancer du cerveau cette nuit à l'âge de 77 ans. Avec sa disparition, c'est une certaine idée de l'Amérique qui s'évanouit. Le clan Kennedy pleure la mort de son patriarche. Le Parti démocrate rend hommage à sa ténacité et son engagement. Tout comme le Parti républicain, avec lequel le lion du Sénat s'est quelques fois allié pour défendre l'intérêt national. Retour en image sur un destin hors du commun.

Dans un communiqué publié ce matin, le président Barack Obama salue la mémoire du dernier des frères Kennedy.

"Michelle and I were heartbroken to learn this morning of the death of our dear friend, Senator Ted Kennedy.
For five decades, virtually every major piece of legislation to advance the civil rights, health and economic well being of the American people bore his name and resulted from his efforts.
I valued his wise counsel in the Senate, where, regardless of the swirl of events, he always had time for a new colleague. I cherished his confidence and momentous support in my race for the Presidency. And even as he waged a valiant struggle with a mortal illness, I've profited as President from his encouragement and wisdom.
An important chapter in our history has come to an end. Our country has lost a great leader, who picked up the torch of his fallen brothers and became the greatest United States Senator of our time.
And the Kennedy family has lost their patriarch, a tower of strength and support through good times and bad.
Our hearts and prayers go out to them today--to his wonderful wife, Vicki, his children Ted Jr., Patrick and Kara, his grandchildren and his extended family."

We are told that Barack Obama believes too much in an America of high principle and bold endeavor, but when John Kennedy called of going to the moon, he didn't say, ‘It's too far to get there. We shouldn't even try.’
Our people answered his call and rose to the challenge, and today an American flag still marks the surface of the moon.
Yes, we are all Americans. This is what we do. We reach the moon. We scale the heights. I know it. I've seen it. I've lived it. And we can do it again.
There is a new wave of change all around us, and if we set our compass true, we will reach our destination ? not merely victory for our party but renewal for our nation.

Le dernier des trois frères Kennedy s'est eteint. La honte de la famille, le seul qui n'ait pas réussi à conclure avec Marilyn Monroe ;-)

Sérieusement, la prochaine étape est l'élection de son remplacant. C'est dommage, je ne serais pas citoyen américain à temps pour participer à cette élection (oui, je vis dans le Massachusetts)
